Program Detail

Personal coaching is designed for high profile people and top-level executives and for those where the classroom situation is inappropriate.  For example:

  • Individuals may wish to receive intensive coaching on a particular skill, such as inspirational speaking;
  • They are unable to commit large amounts of time to formal study and want to fast-track the program;
  • They desire coaching for a public performance where the preparation of the material must be kept confidential;
  • They are in a senior position and it may be inappropriate to participate with their staff;
  • They prefer a dedicated personal approach.
  • Personal coaching offers up to six modules conducted one-on-one.

Each module is three hours long.

Module 1: Delivery Skills

This module provides an introductory session designed to raise delivery skills to a good level of performance and covers the following topics:

Module 2: Persuasion Skills

Every executive needs to persuade others. This can involve persuading an audience, arguing a case to the senior executive committee, or counter-arguing a case during an important business meeting.

Topics include:

  •         the art of persuasion;
  •         moving from description to persuasion;
  •         reasoning, logic and rhetoric;
  •         argument;

  •         inspirational speaking;
  •         oratory.

Module 3: Speeches

Speaking at conferences is something that most Executives will need to do at some time during their career. There are many occasions in corporate life and government administration where a more formal approach to communicating is appropriate.   Many do not recognize this and through inappropriate presentations risk an audience response ranging from ambivalence to frustration and anger.  This module introduces the art and practice of designing, writing and delivering speeches and includes the following:

  •         the advantages of using speeches;
  •         writing and delivering speeches;
  •         when to use a speech;
  •         working the podium.

Module 4: Interpersonal Communication

This is a module designed to improve interpersonal communication.  Techniques learned are applicable to all situations involving interpersonal communication, such as handling audience question time, debating with a committee or a board of directors, resolving conflict of opinion, encouraging and managing conflict in the decision-making process.

Topics include:

  •         handling questions;
  •         handling a hostile audience;
  •         debate;
  •         understanding and improving interpersonal communication;
  •         understanding and resolving conflict.

Module 5: Specific Performance Design

This module is available to advise and assist executives with the preparation and production of specific performances such as a public performance where much is at stake.

Or it may involve the production of a complete performance involving multiple presenters for a specific event, such as a conference presentation, a bid for new business, a product release.

Lynda Spillane designs and directs the total performance in close consultation with the client.  This includes designing the overall production, designing and structuring the presentations, supervising the preparation of materials, designing handouts, selecting and designing media, coaching presenters and rehearsing the production.

Module 6: Contract

Consulting in Public Performance is available on an on-call advisory basis over an extended period.  For example a client may wish to contract these services for an agreed number of hours over a set period, say six months or one year.

The advantage of such a contract is that the client has the expertise of a consultant only a phone call away.  This service is particularly appropriate for senior executives and politicians who are required to respond rapidly to the media or the public.
